While it could be argued that Elder Futhark existed before the Viking Age, I intentionally selected it due to its connection with our oral traditions and the deities themselves, both of which precede the Viking era. These runes appear on some of the earliest artifacts from that time, like weapons, jewelry, and religious pendants discovered in Viking ship burials, including the iconic Thor’s hammer, Mjollnir. Other everyday items, such as combs and divinatory rune staves, as well as memorial rune stones to honor departed friends and loved ones, also bear these ancient symbols. The history embedded in this Futhark is profound.

The Poetic Edda, often referred to as the Elder Edda, is a crucial and timeless piece of ancient history, tracing back at least a millennium prior to the Viking Age through oral storytelling. These poems celebrate the rich pantheon, mythology, legends, and sagas of the Norse, making this collection one of the most influential contributions to Northern European heritage. Its impact on subsequent literature is immense. The value of the oldest copy of The Poetic Edda was so esteemed that the Icelandic bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson presented it to the King of Denmark in 1662, restoring it to its homeland in the form of the Codex Regius. To this day, The Poetic Edda is honored as a national treasure among Heathens across the globe.
